Corbett Nets Career-High 28 in Hawks’ 74-70 Loss to Elmira

            ONEONTA, NY – Junior guard Caitlin Corbett (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) made 10-of-18 shots from the floor, including three three-pointers, for a career-best 28 points but Hartwick couldn't overcome a 57% shooting night from the visiting Soaring Eagles in a 74-70 loss on Tuesday night at Lambros Arena.

            Elmira, which snaps a six-game winless streak against the Hawks, would make 26-of-46 from the field in the contest and 47% from three-point range. The visitors also had the advantage on the boards, 39-29.

            Hartwick falls to 5-16 and 4-8 on the season. EC is now 12-8 and 4-7.

            Mary Schoenherr (Unionville, CT/Farmington) would contribute 15 points and a team-high three assists for the Hawks. Alexa DuBois (Hobart, NY/South Kortright) added eight points and five rebounds.
            Kelly Pine (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls) scored seven points and grabbed a team-high seven boards for 'Wick. Carly Johnson (Greenville, NY/Greenville Central) also netted seven points and she grabbed a game-high four steals.

            Elmira was paced by Danielle Cleary's 22 points. She also had seven rebounds, four assists, and four threes. Lindsey Heaton and Sally Hogan each scored 14 points and Emily Green scored 10.

            The Soaring Eagles would jump in front by as many as eight points in the opening quarter of play before Hartwick cut it to five after 10 minutes of action. The Hawks trimmed the gap to one, 21-20, in the second before the Soaring Eagles took a 28-23 lead into halftime.
            In the third, 'Wick made it a one-point game but EC answered with a 9-0 run to open up another 10-point gap. The Soaring Eagles' lead grew to 11 in the final period but a 7-0 spurt made the score 55-51 with 6:34 left. The Hawks made it a four-point game again, 68-64, with a minute to go. The Soaring Eagles tacked on points from the free-throw line down the stretch and four points would be as close as Hartwick would get.

            Hartwick will host Utica College on Thursday night at Lambros Arena. Tip-off is 8 p.m.
