Olariche Obi and Mia Farrell combined for 38 points to lead the University of Chicago to a 74-59 victory over the University of Rochester in a women's basketball matchup of nationally-ranked teams at the Louis Alexander Palestra on Sunday afternoon.
 
Chicago entered the weekend ranked #21 in the D3hoops.com media poll and #19 by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Rochester started the weekend ranked #7 by both organizations.
 
Obi scored a game-high 22 points, collected 11 rebounds, and recorded six steals for the Maroons (16-2, 7-0 UAA). Farrell had 16 points. Chicago moved into sole possession of first place in the UAA at 7-0, one game ahead of Rochester (16-2, 6-1).  Chicago ran its winning streak to 14. Rochester had an 11-game winning streak snapped. UR's last loss came on December 1 against then-top-ranked Tufts University in the Williams College Invitational.
 
Brenna James scored a career-high 15 points for Rochester in 20 minutes off the bench. She hit 6-8 from the foul line. Alexandra Leslie scored 14 points, had 11 rebounds, and three blocked shots.

Chicago moved in front with a 13-3 run over three-plus minutes in the first quarter. Obi scored five of the 13 points. That put UC ahead, 15-12, with 1:35 left in the period. It was 15-14 after one.
 
The UC lead grew to five, 19-14, before Rochester used a mini- 6-2 spurt to get within 21-20. Lizzy Atkinson and James hit two free throws apiece and Emma Michaels sank a reverse layup on a putback. Chicago scored seven of the next nine points to move to a 28-22 lead. It was 32-26 at the half.
 
Farrell scored four points and three other players contributed to an 11-5 stretch that opened the third and gave Chicago a 43-31 lead. James had the five Rochester points, hitting a pullup three-pointer on the break, then driving for a layup.  Rochester narrowed it to seven four times in that quarter, but Madison Dunbar scored on a putback, then drove for a layup to get the lead back to double digits (53-42).
 
Chicago scored 20 points off 21 Rochester turnovers. The Maroons made 13 steals – six by Obi, two each by Taylor Lake, Jamie Kockenmeister, and Elizabeth Nye, one by Farrell. UC scored 11 second-chance points off nine offensive rebounds.
 
Rochester scored 17 points off 16 Chicago giveaways. The Yellowjackets blocked five shots – three by Leslie, and grabbed 14 offensive rebounds, scoring eight points.
