LOS ANGELES — The Occidental women's basketball team edged La Verne 92-90 in a fast-paced and frantic, high-scoring game on Saturday.
Triana Anderson scored a career-high 30 points on 10 for 17 shooting from the field and 10 for 12 from the free throw line. She also had three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Shariah Green had 16 points and 14 rebounds, Emily Leonard had 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Alyssa Ramlochan had 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists for Oxy.
"We did a a nice job of countering when La Verne made runs," Oxy head coach Anahit Aladzhanyan said. "Our post players anchored us on both ends and our guards made timely buckets."
Oxy extended a 10 point lead with 1:30 remaining and was able to hold off the Leopards.
Clarissa Perez led the Leopards with 36 points and Bailey Kurahashi added 22.
Season Impact: Oxy improves to 9-10 overall and 4-7 in SCIAC play. The Tigers are still very much in the SCIAC playoff mix, trailing fourth-place Redlands and Whittier at 5-5.
La Verne falls to 5-14 and 3-7.
Next Game: Oxy is back in action on Wednesday against St. Katherine in a non-conference match up at 7 p.m. Oxy resumes SCIAC play at Caltech on Saturday.
