HOBOKEN, NJ – Hartwick used a balanced attack to topple host Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday at Canavan Arena by a final score of 69-57. Hartwick is now 5-12 overall and 4-4 in the Empire 8. The Ducks fall to 8-11 and 5-5.
After falling behind 8-2, an 11-2 run capped by a Victoria Sacramone (Bayside, NY/St. Mary's) three-pointer with 3:31 left in the first quarter would put the Hawks in front for good. The 'Wick lead grew to nine at the end of the quarter and it swelled to 13 early in the second. The Ducks narrowed the gap to three, 33-30, at halftime.
The Hawks maintained a tight lead in the third quarter, taking a 50-47 advantage into the final quarter. Hartwick out-scored Stevens 8-2 over the first six minutes of the fourth for a 58-51 edge. Five points would be as close as the Ducks would get the rest of the game as the Hawks made 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
Sacramone led six Hawks in double figures with 14 points. She also made a pair of three-point baskets. Carly Johnson (Greenville, NY/Greenville Central) and Kelly Pine (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls) each scored 12 points. Johnson added a game-high five steals, three assists, and two blocks. Pine pulled down eight rebounds and dished out three assists.
Mary Schoenherr (Unionville, CT/Farmington) registered 10 points and game-highs of 10 rebounds and four assists. Alexa DuBois (Hobart, NY/South Kortright) chipped in 10 points, eight boards, and three steals. Caitlin Corbett (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) scored 11 and added six rebounds.
Megan Brown paced the Ducks with a game-high 21 points. Maddi Hahn contributed 14 points.
Hartwick returns to action on Tuesday, January 30 when it hosts Sage at Lambros Arena beginning at 8 p.m.
