King's Women's Basketball Picks up Thrilling 55-50 Freedom Conference Win Over DeSales

KING'S WOMEN OUTLAST DESALES 55-50 TO EARN IMPORTANT MAC FREEDOM VICTORY
 
WILKES-BARRE – The King's College women's basketball team outscored visiting DeSales University 8-3 over the final 4:18 of the game as the Lady Monarchs posted an important 55-50 Wednesday night in Scandlon Gymnasium.
 
The game, which was the last of the first cycle of games among Freedom Conference teams, enabled King's to improve to 10-8 overall and 5-2 in league play. DeSales, meanwhile, slipped to 9-9 and 4-3. It also marked King's first victory over DeSales since February 20, 2013.
 
King's overcame a 20-12 first quarter deficit by outscoring DeSales 17-4 in the second quarter to take a 29-24 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, DeSales took a 45-42 lead on a Molly Jansco jumper with 7:21 remaining, but King's would eventually tie the game at 47-47 on another three-pointer by Lindsey Dippre with 6:28 left in the contest.

After nearly two minutes of scoreless play, King's took a 49-47 lead on an inside bucket by Rebeca Prociak at the 4:18 mark but Jansco but the lead to one point by making one-of-two free throws with 4:00 to go. King's responded with one-of-two foul shots by Prociak to push the Lady Monarch lead to 50-48 with 3:40 on the clock.

With King's leading 53-50 with under 0:10 to play DeSales had a chance to tie the game. But the Monarch defense came up big when Steeber stole a pass in the King's defensive end of the and raced in for an uncontested lay-up with 0:05 on the clock to seal the victory.

Steeber led King's with 12 points and five rebounds. Prociak posted her seventh double-double of the year with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists. Yori added 11 points, seven rebounds, while Olivia Hoffman contributed eight points, nine rebounds, five assists, and four blocked shots. Dippre chipped in with seven points.
 
DeSales was led by Leandra Sterner with 11 points while Jansco and Kelly added 10 points apiece.

King's returns to the court Saturday when the second cycle of MAC Freedom games begins with a 1:00 PM matchup at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY
