KING'S WOMEN'S BASKETBALL POSTS 75-59 WIN OVER WILKES
WILKES-BARRE -- Alexis Steeber scored a career-high 23 points and the King's College women's basketball team broke open a game tied 32-32 at the half by outscoring host Wilkes University 43-27 over the game's final 20 minutes to post a 75-59 victory Saturday at the Marts Center.
With the win King's improved to 9-8 overall and 4-2 in the MAC Freedom Conference while Wilkes slipped to 4-112 and 0-6 in league play.
King's has won 37 of the last 40 meetings between the teams. The Lady Monarchs have won the last seven games between the teams.
King's broke the game open in the third quarter when Steeber scored six straight points and Mackenzie Yori buried a three-pointer to give the Lady Monarchs a 46-35 lead. After a Wilkes bucket, Rebeca Prociak and Steeber scored back-to-back to push the lead to 50-37 with 4:40 on the clock. IN the fourth quarter the Lady Monarchs used an 8-0 surge to post its biggest lead of the game at 64-54 thanks to four points from Rachael DeTore and a bucket each from Yori and Amber Farnholtz with 5:47 left in the contest.
Wilkes would draw no closer than 10 points the rest of the way.
Steeber, who surpassed her previous high or 22 points set earlier this season, added 10 rebounds to record a double-double while Prociak added 19 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Yori added 15 points and seven rebounds while Olivia Hoffman chipped in with three points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and five blocked shots. DeTore chipped in with eight points, six rebounds, and three steals.
Wilkes was paced by Maddie Kelley with 16 points and 1 rebounds while Alyssa Alfano added 11 points.
King's will host DeSales University Wednesday at 8:00 PM in Scandlon Gymnasium.
