The Hope College women's basketball team wrapped the first half of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association with a nearly flawless performance at Saint Mary's on Wednesday.

The unbeaten and nationally ranked Flying Dutch dominated from the opening tip en route to an 85-27 victory against the Belles.

Hope — ranked No. 2 by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll and No. 3 by D3hoops.com — improved to 17-0 overall and 8-0 in MIAA play.

The Flying Dutch are one of four Division III teams still undefeated along with Amherst, Bowdoin and Wartburg.

Hope yielded its fewest points in a game since a 67-28 victory against Finlandia on December 28, 2012 at DeVos Fieldhouse.

The four points allowed in both the first and third quarters were a season-best performance.

Junior forward Francesca Buchanan of Grant, Michigan (Sparta HS) led a balanced scoring effort with 13 points in only 12 minutes of action for the Flying Dutch.

Senior guard Madison Geers of Scottville, Michigan (Mason County Central) and freshman guard Kenedy Schoonveld of Zeeland, Michigan (Holland Christian) chipped in 11 points apiece.

All 15 Hope players scored. Freshman forward Olivia Voskuil of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian) added nine points off the bench.

Hope scored the first 16 points inside Saint Mary's renovated Angela Athletic Center and led 19-4 after the first quarter.

The Flying Dutch also outscored Saint Mary's (5-11, 3-5 MIAA) by a 24-4 margin during the third quarter.

Hope limited Saint Mary's to 19.6 percent field-goal shooting (10-51).

The Flying Dutch are idle on Saturday. Hope returns to action on Wednesday, January 24 with a 7:30 p.m. game at home against Albion.
