DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Danielle Skedzielewski and Ashley Smink combined for 39 points, including 30 in the second half, to lead host Delaware Valley University to a 65-59, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory over Misericordia University.

The win was the second straight for the Aggies as they improved to 5-10 overall and 2-2 in the league. The Cougars fell to 8-6, 1-2.

The game was delayed by nearly two hours due to a power outage on campus and both teams started slow as each shot less than 32 percent from the field in the first quarter. Misericordia did hit a trio of 3-pointers and led 15-9 after those 10 minutes.

The Cougars then scored 11 of the first 18 points in the second to build a 10-point advantage. DelVal scored the next six, three each by Lauren Moretti and Monika Smallwood, to pull to within four before it trailed by six, 32-26, at the break.

Misericordia was then up seven in the third quarter before the Aggies went on a 10-0 run to take their first lead of the game since the opening basket. Four different players scored including treys from Skedzielewski and Smink.

The Cougars' Jordan Bath hit a jumper to briefly stop the spurt, but back came DelVal with nine in a row, four by Smink, to go up 10 and it eventually took a 49-42 lead into the fourth.

The final quarter started with a Skedzielewski 3-pointer and an Amber Grohowski layup to make it a 12-point contest. The Aggies later made it 60-46 on a Smink layup with 4:20 on the clock.  Misericordia then went on a furious comeback as it ran off 11 consecutive points thanks to a 3-pointer, a jumper, a layup and four free throw. The last was a Bath free throw with 1:09 remaining.

DelVal's Morgan Mitchell was fouled two second later and she hit one of two from the line to make it a two-possession contest. Skedzielewski followed with two free throws with 27 ticks left. The teams then exchanged foul shots in the final seconds for the 65-59 outcome.

Smink finished with 22 points, four rebounds and three assists. Skedzielewski, who did not have a point in the first half, hit three treys in the second, en route to a 17-point performance. She also added six rebounds and three assists. Smallwood added seven points and 10 boards while Grohowski had six points and six rebounds. Mitchell chipped in with three points, six rebounds and four assists.

DelVal will travel to Manhattanville College for a MAC Freedom game on Wednesday, January 17 (8 p.m.).
