Keuka College Pulls Away Late for 55-48 NEAC Victory

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team defeated Morrisville State College 55-48 on Wednesday in a North Eastern Athletic Conference game at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.

Lauren Anten (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) led Keuka College (9-2, 4-1 NEAC) with 16 points. Anten also led the Green and Gold with eight rebounds. Reighly Melochick (Minersville, Pa. / Minersville Area) was right behind her with 15 points and Sarah Tyler (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) added 10 points for the Wolves.

Keuka College 55 vs. Morrisville State 48

The Mustangs came back in the first quarter after Keuka took an early lead. Morrisville State shot 42.9% from the field and held the Wolves to just 25% in the opening frame. The Mustangs led 14-12 after the first quarter.

Keuka College had their best defensive quarter of the game in the second. They held Morrisville State to just six points and 21.4% from the floor in the quarter. The Wolves would grow their lead to five points on a Lauren Anten jumper, but Morrisville State made a basket in their final possession of the half. Keuka College led 23-20 at the break.

The Green and Gold came out fast in the third quarter. Lauren Anten knocked down a three and Reighly Melochick made a layup in the opening minute to make it 28-20, forcing a Mustang timeout. The Mustangs responded and scored 12 of the next 16 points in the quarter as the game went to the fourth tied 32-32.

Morrisville State led by as many as six points in the fourth quarter, but Keuka College did not go away. Back to back threes by Sam Laranjo (Averill Park, N.Y. / Averill Park) and Reighly Melochick tied the game at 43-43 midway through the fourth. After Morrisville took a two-point lead back, the Wolves scored five straight to take a 48-45 lead. The Green and Gold would not surrender the lead from that point as the Wolves went on to the 55-48 conference victory.

  • It was the first victory for Keuka College over Morrisville State since the 2013-14 season. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Mustangs

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves are on the road this weekend with games at Penn St.-Abington and Lancaster Bible College. The Wolves defeated the Nittany Lions 72-63 in Pennsylvania last season and downed Lancaster Bible 59-51 at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.
