No. 3 Hope Records Season-High 20 Assists In Win At Alma

Madison Geers and Francesca Buchanan delivered a one-two punch for the nationally ranked Hope College women's basketball team in an 82-64 win at Alma College on Wednesday.

Geers scored a career-high 22 points for the unbeaten Flying Dutch in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association victory, while Buchanan netted 13 of her season-high 19 points in the second half.

Hope improved to 15-0 overall and 6-0 in MIAA play heading into Saturday's Rivalry game against Calvin College. Tipoff is 3 p.m. at DeVos Fieldhouse.

The Flying Dutch — ranked No. 2 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll and No. 3 by D3hoops.com — outscored upset-minded Alma 45-31 after halftime.

Geers, pictured at right, scored 10 points in the first quarter to help the Flying Dutch stay tied with Alma at 16-16. The senior from Scottville, Michigan (Mason County Central) made four of his first six field-goal attempts, including two of four 3-pointers.

Geers added one more of her four 3-pointers in the second quarter — and five more points — as Hope extended its lead to 37-33 by halftime.

Buchanan, pictured at left, took over in the third quarter against Alma (1-13, 0-7 MIAA).

The junior from Grant, Michigan (Sparta) scored 10 points on 4-of-6 field-goal shooting during the third quarter to help the Flying Dutch push their lead to 60-46 heading into the fourth quarter.

Hope finished the game with a season-high 20 assists.

Freshman Lauren Newman of Flushing, Michigan (Flushing) recorded a team-high four assists.

Geers and freshman Kenedy Schoonveld of Zeeland, Michigan (Holland Christian) each had three assists. Schoonveld chipped in eight points.

Buchanan also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds as Hope outrebounded Alma by a 38-23 margin.
