PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's basketball team ran its winning streak to 10 games with a 60-53 victory against DeSales Wednesday night in a MAC Freedom matchup at Kennedy Gymnasium.

With the win, this year's team is only one victory away from tying the 1980-8 and 1984-85 teams for the longest winning streak in program history.

Junior Kayleah McGuire (Somers, N.Y./Somers) led Manhattanville (11-1, 2-0 MAC Freedom) with 16 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore Nancy Caballero (Henderson, Nev./Liberty) added 12 points and 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season and classmate Kymane Jones (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville ) added 11 points.

The Valiants trailed 15-11 after the first quarter, as Leandra Sterner led DeSales (7-7, 2-1 MAC Freedom) with six points. McGuire scored two baskets early in the second quarter, helping the Valiants tie the game at 18.

From there, Manhattanville went on a game-altering 12-0 run, as Caballero recorded five points and grabbed a pair of rebounds during the run. The Valiants' 24-8 edge in the second quarter gave them a 35-23 lead at the half.

The 3rd quarter was a back and forth affair, as Manhattanville's lead fluctuated between nine and 15 points; Jones led the way with four as five different Valiants recorded a field goal with the team taking a 47-34 lead to the fourth quarter.

A lay-up by senior Joiada Darnell (St. Albans, N.Y./Humanities and the Arts), two free throws by Jones, and another lay-up by Caballero expanded Manhattanville's lead to 14 points with 6:20 left in the game. DeSales, who finished with seven 3-pointers, knocked down three over the ensuing four and a half minutes and closed the gap to six with less than two minutes remaining. Sarah Coutu (Cranston, R.I./Cranston East), who finished with six points and recorded at least three steals for the seventh time this season, responded with a jumper on Manhattanville's ensuing possession, and the Bulldogs missed their final five shots, as Manhattanville beat DeSales for the first time since 2012.

Sterner finished with a game-high 23 points for the Bulldogs, while Morgan Birmelin added 11.

The Valiants continue MAC Freedom play Saturday on the road against King's in a 1:00 p.m. tip-off. The team returns home next Wednesday for an 8:00 showdown with Delaware Valley.
