Camden, NJ – Senior guard Katie Sire scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds as No. 23 Montclair State pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 62-47 victory over Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday evening.
Senior Taylor Harmon and sophomore Alex McKinnon added 12 and 11 points respectively as the Red Hawks ran their winning streak to 11 games. Montclair (13-1, 8-0 NJAC) outscored the Scarlet Raptors (8-6, 5-3 NJAC) 14-6 in the final period.
McKinnon's jumper with 30 seconds left in the first quarter gave Montclair State a 12-11 lead after one period which would increase to 26-19 late in the second quarter as Kate Tobie converted a three-point play with 2:45 to go before halftime.
Rutgers-Camden closed to within 27-24 at halftime but again the Red Hawks were able to push the lead back to double digits near the end of the third. Sire's three-pointer put Montclair up 48-38 with 1:42 left. The Raptors cut the deficit to seven heading into the fourth, two foul shots by Sire and a three by Harmon increased the advantage to 53-41with just over seven minutes left.
McKinnon grabbed eight rebounds while Tobie registered eight points, four rebounds and six assists. Kim Calloway hauled in six rebounds.
The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, January 13 at home against The College of New Jersey with the tipoff of the contest slated for 3:00 pm.
