Lakers Drop Conference Road Game to Oneonta

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's basketball team fell to Oneonta, 69-48, on the road on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Lakers move to 4-9 on the season and 1-5 against conference foes, while Oneonta improves to 9-4 overall and 4-2 in SUNYAC play.

Oswego got off to a hot start, with two layups by Courtney Ameele and two free throws by Rachael Windhausen to open the game with six unanswered points. The Lakers kept their lead for most of the first quarter, finishing with an 18-17 advantage, but the Red Dragons were able to chip away during the second quarter and eventually capture the lead themselves.

Ameele scored a team-high 20 points against Oneonta, with 12 of those points coming from 3-pointers. It was the senior's third time scoring 20 or more this season. Amelee is averaging 16 points a game, the most on the Lakers. Windhausen was just shy of Ameele's total against the Red Dragons, putting up 18 points of her own. The junior was nearly perfect from the free throw line, sinking eight of her nine shots.

Oswego will continue to face SUNYAC opponents for the remainder of the regular season. At 5:30 pm on Friday, the Lakers host the Potsdam Bears at the Max Ziel Gymnasium.
