TCNJ PROVES TOO MUCH FOR RAMAPO

Ewing, NJ: The College of New Jersey women's basketball team came away with a 74-56 win over Ramapo College today at Packer Hall. The Lions improve to 10-3 overall, 5-1 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 4-10 overall and 1-6 in the conference.

The Lions held the Roadrunners to just 22 points in the first two quarters while TCNJ went into the locker room at halftime up 45-22. Ramapo was able to outscore TCNJ in the third quarter (15-12) and fourth quarter (19-17) while the Lions held their biggest lead, a 27-point margin, in the third quarter.

Rookie Amber Sagan led the Roadrunners with a career high 20 points including shooting 6-12 from the field, 3-5 from the three-point line and 5-6 from the free throw line. Jessica Repasy contributed with 11 points of her own. The team shot 38% (20-52) from the field, 30% (3-10) from the three-point line and 72% (13-18) from the free throw line. The Ramapo defense forced 14 TCNJ turnovers, which led to 16 points in favor of the Roadrunners.

For the Lions, three starters scored in double figures while Nikki Schott led the team with 20 points, five rebounds and three blocks. Jen Byrne finished with 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals while Charlotte Schum added 15 points; including four three-pointers. TCNJ made 11 three-pointers in the game, shooting 42% (11-26) while they shot 45% (28-61) from the floor and 87% (7-8) from the free throw line.

Ramapo scored first in the game with a jumper from Jina Crawford before Schott scored and was fouled on the shot. She converted her free throw to put the Lions in the lead 3-2, a lead that stood the remainder of the game. Ramapo cut the lead to two before TCNJ went on an 8-1 run to take a 16-7 lead with four minutes on the clock. Ramapo went on a 7-0 run of their own to come within two, 16-14 before Byrne nailed a three-pointer with under two minutes left. Repasy scored the final basket in the quarter for either team on a layup to cut the TCNJ lead to three 19-16.

TCNJ would put the game away early in the second quarter when they made five straight three-pointers which started a 17-0 run to open the quarter and taking a 39-16 lead. The Lions held a 20-plus point lead through the third quarter heading into the fourth with a 57-37 lead. In the fourth quarter, Sagan sank a three-pointer with six minutes to go cutting the lead to 13, 62-49. An 8-2 TCNJ run put the Lions back up 72-54 with under three minutes on the clock. Sagan scored the last basket for the Roadrunners while Byrne converted on a pair of free throws as TCNJ won 74-56.

The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, January 10th when they travel to Rowan University (7-5 overall, 4-2 NJAC) for a conference matchup at 8pm.
