#18 Marietta downs Muskingum 80-66

NEW CONCORD, Ohio — The No. 18 ranked Marietta College women's basketball team ran its winning streak to 12 games with an 80-66 win at Muskingum University Wednesday (Jan. 3) evening. The Pioneers are 12-0 overall and 5-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Muskingum slips to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

Amisha Herd scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Brooke Borich had 14 points, while Laura Pullins finished with 11 points. Corrie Burkhardt added seven points and 10 boards.

Olivia Besancon led Muskingum with 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Emily Yeager added 15 points and Stephanie Clark notched a game-high 12 rebounds.

Neither team led by more than four points in the first quarter as the game headed into the second period tied at 15-15. The game stayed close until Marietta went on an 8-0 run to go in front, 35-27, with 1:45 left in the period. The Pioneers led by eight at halftime, 39-31.

Herd opened the third quarter with back-to-back three-pointers as Marietta pushed the lead to 15 points, 47-32. But Muskingum battled back. The Muskies cut the Pioneer lead to three, 55-52, with 1:32 left in the period.

Marietta capitalized on a 9-0 run pushing the margin back to 15 points, 72-57, with 4:02 left in the game. A Borich three-pointer and four points from Shay Lett down the stretch sealed the victory for Marietta.

For the game, Marietta shot 46.2% (30-of-65) from the floor, 31.3% (5-of-16) from three-point range and 62.5% (15-of-24) at the line. The Muskies were 21-of-62 (33.9%) from the floor, 9-of-31 (29.0%) behind the arc and 15-of-20 (75.0%) at the line.

The Pioneers outrebounded Muskingum, 46-38. Marietta committed 11 turnovers, while the Muskies turned the ball over 15 times.

Marietta will put its perfect record on the line against No. 14 Ohio Northern University this Saturday (Jan. 6) in Ada. Tip off is set for 3 p.m.
