BRUNSWICK, ME – Nationally-twelfth ranked Bowdoin College (11-0) defeated Hartwick's women's basketball team 92-49 in the second round of the Bowdoin Coastal Classic in Brunswick, ME on Saturday night. The Hawks trailed by a 43-27 margin at halftime and the host Polar Bears pulled away in the second half, out-scoring the Hawks, 49-22.
Bowdoin controlled the glass, out-rebounding Hartwick by a margin of 57-33. The Polar Bears grabbed 36 offensive rebounds which they turned into 35 second-chance points. They also forced 'Wick into 29 turnovers which they manufactured into 39 points.
Hartwick was led by Carly Johnson's (Greenville, NY/Greenville Central) 15 points. She made four three-pointers in the game and was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
Alexa DuBois (Hobart, NY/South Kortright), Caitlin Corbett (Altamont, NY/Guilderland), and Kelly Pine (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls) each added 10 points apiece. Corbett had a team-high seven rebounds. Pine and Kelsey Collins (Forestburgh, NY/Eldred Central) pulled down six rebounds each.
The Polar Bears had four players in double figures, led by Lauren Petit's 15 points. Taylor Choate added 13 points, five steals, four rebounds, and three assists. Kate Kerrigan had 12 points, game-highs of eight rebounds and six assists, to go along with four steals. Maddie Hasson also was in double figures with 12 points.
Hartwick (1-8) opens up Empire 8 Conference play on the road on Friday, January 5 at Alfred University. The Hawks and Saxons get started at 8 p.m.
