Rowan Women's Basketball Cruises To 86-68 Victory Over Widener

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team did not trail after the first quarter in an 86-68 win over visiting Widener University on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Profs improve to 6-4 overall while the Pride has a 4-5 record. Guard/forward Alex Raring (sr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) led Rowan with 26 points and four steals. Guards Olivia Rulon (jr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) and Summer Crilley (sr. Galloway, NJ/Holy Spirit) scored 15 and 11 points respectively. Guards Dominique Peters (so. Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) and Juliette Tobin (fr. Deptford, NJ/Deptford Twp.) and center April Szymczyk (sr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) produced eight points apiece. Szymczyk also grabbed six rebounds and guard Samantha Tello (so. Elmwood Park, NJ/St. Mary's) dished five assists.

 

Widener guard Devan Rimmer (so. Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) tallied 17 points and eight rebounds. Forward Emily Hardy (jr. Lewisberry, PA/Cedar Cliff) recorded 14 points and nine boards. Guard Allison Gallagher (sr. Souderton, PA/Souderton) registered 12 points and four steals. Forward Tatiana Pleasant (fr. King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) corralled 12 rebounds and guard Madison Ireland (so. Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) chipped in with nine points.

 

The score was tied at seven in the opening quarter (6:14). The Pride went on a 9-3 run to take a 16-10 advantage (3:44). Hardy posted six points and Rimmer made a three-pointer. The Profs responded with a 12-1 surge to go ahead by five (22-17) with 9:51 to go in the second stanza. Rowan would not trail for the rest of the contest. Widener came within three (22-19) at the 8:48 mark before the Profs scored 17 of the final 24 points in the quarter. Rowan was up 39-26 at halftime. Raring had 11 points at the break followed by Hardy's 10.

 

After a layup by the Pride to start the third, the Profs poured in 11 straight points for a 22-point lead (50-28) with 8:18 to go. Raring totaled five points and Rulon and Crilley each hit a three. Rowan had its largest lead at 25 (57-32, 6:41) before Widener had a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to 15 (57-42) with 4:12 to play. Five different players scored in the stretch and it was the closest that the Pride came for the remainder of the contest.

 

The Profs play Eastern University in the Cabrini University Classic on Saturday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m.
