DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Kate O'Leary hit nine 3-pointers, including six in a decisive third-quarter, to help The College of New Jersey pull away to a 68-51 non-conference victory over host Delaware Valley University on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Lions improved to 6-3 overall while the Aggies fell to 2-7.

 

The first half featured 10 lead changes and four ties, including a 15-15 deadlock after the first quarter. Ashley Smink and Danielle Skedzielewski combined for 13 of DelVal's 15 points in that opening stanza.

 

TCNJ held the largest lead of the half at 24-18 before the Aggies ripped off seven straight points to regain the lead, thanks to five points from Smink including a deep trey. The Lions came right back with a 7-0 run of their own to extend their lead back to six before eventually taking a 32-29 lead into the half.

 

O'Leary started the third quarter on fire with four 3-pointers in the first 6:21 to lead TCNJ on a 12-3 run that ballooned their lead 44-31. Behind O'Leary's six treys in the stanza, the Lions outscored DelVal, 24-12, to take a 56-41 advantage into the fourth quarter.

 

TCNJ went on a 7-3 run to open the final stanza and take its largest lead of the game at 61-41 and finished with the 68-51 road victory. O'Leary shot 9-for-17 from beyond the arc and had a team-high 28 points to go along with six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Jen Byrne followed with 14 points and four boards while Shannon Devitt led all players with 10 rebounds to go with eight points.

 

Smink led all scorers in the game with a career-high 29 points on 13-for-20 shooting from the field. The sophomore added five assists, one steal and one block. Sarah Wills followed with nine points and six rebounds while Skedzielewski finished with six points and six boards.

 

The Aggies have 13 days off before the return to action at the Juniata Holiday Tournament on December 29. They are slated to take on Gwynedd Mercy University in the opening round at 2 p.m.
