Hamline WBB Rally Falls Just Short to Wis-Stout

The Hamline women's basketball team showed serious resiliency Saturday afternoon against Wis-Stout. The Pipers shook off a 14-point deficit to rally to tie the game in the fourth quarter before  giving way late in a 68-60 loss to the Blue Devils at Hutton Arena. Morgen Coleman  led a balanced offense with 15 points with Alaina Quaranta and Reilly Geistfeld adding 10 points apiece. Geistfeld had a game high 11 rebounds for a double-double while Coleman and Quaranta each had three steals as Hamline pilfered a game high 11. Quaranta also had a game high four assists. 

Hamline is now 2-7 overall on the season.

The Pipers started slow, surrendering 17 of the game's first 21 points. They worked the margin at 22-12 by quarter's end. The Blue Devils upped the advantage to 14 in the second quarter but Hu whittled it to 11 at 39-28 by halftime. Late in the third quarter, HU began to make a serious move, scoring six of the final seven points in the session to get within seven at 53-46 with 10 minutes left. Geistfeld scored the first four points of the fourth quarter and Quaranta drained a three-pointer to tie the game at 53 with 6:39 left. The Blue Devils scored the next five points but HU responded with baskets from Geistfeld and Coleman to trail by 58-57 with three minutes left. It then went to a free throw game. Wis-Stout converted eight in the final two minutes of the game to secure the verdict. 

Amber Fabcek led Wis-Stout with 17 points with nine rebounds and Kyncaide Diedrich added 13 and eight boards.

Hamline now breaks for final exams next week. The Pipers resume action December 29 when they face Occidental in the d3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada. HU plays UC Santa Cruz on December 30. Both games begin at noon Central time.
