HARSH LEADS RAMAPO OVER RUTGERS-NEWARK

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team held off a late run by Rutgers-Newark University to hold onto a 55-52 win tonight at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners improve to 3-5 overall and earn their first NJAC win of the season and stand at 1-3 in the NJAC. The Scarlet Raiders drop to 5-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
 
A three-pointer from Harsh put Ramapo up 5-2 in the first quarter that sparked a 15-3 run that was capped off by back-to-back three-pointers from Amber Sagan 17-5 (3:36). A jumper from Bridgette Buckalew put Ramapo up 19-8 with just under two minutes left in the quarter before a made basket from Faith Ashby cut the lead to nine. Solomon and F. Ashby traded baskets before Alie Wickersheim put in two free throws to take an 11-point lead into the second quarter. Ramapo held a double-digit lead the whole second quarter and their biggest lead of the game 27-12 with a jumper from Harsh. Ramapo was up 14 with 3:33 on the clock before Hannah Ashby hit a jumper cutting the lead to 31-20. Harsh nailed her own three-pointer before F. Ashby put in the final basket of the quarter for either team as Ramapo went into the locker room up 34-22.
 
Ramapo stretched their lead to 18 with 6:46 in the third quarter before the Scarlet Raiders went on an 8-0 run to close the quarter only down ten. A jumper from Harsh in the final quarter put Ramapo up 48-36 before the Scarlet Raiders went on a 9-0 run, capped off with a jumper from Nicole Skelly cutting the lead to three 48-45 with 3:31 left in the game. Harsh put in her fourth three-pointer in to regain a 51-45 lead with less than three minutes on the clock. The Ashby sisters scored the next five points for the Scarlet Raiders including a three-pointer with 31 seconds on the clock to cut the lead to two 52-50. Harsh made one of two free throws while a jumper from Barbara Hairs-Jackson with 17 seconds left in the game cut the lead to one 53-52. Crawford and Buckalew made one of two of their free throws in the final 16 seconds of the game as they held on for a 55-52 NJAC conference win.
 
Jenna Harsh led the Roadrunners tonight with a double-double, 21 points and ten rebound including four three-pointers. Solomon grabbed a team high 11 rebounds while she scored six points and blocked two shots. Crawford finished with nine points and three assists while Sagan added six points of her own in the game. Buckalew contributed with four points, three assists and six rebounds. The team shot 40% (21-52) from the field, 36% (7-19) from beyond the three-point line and 54% (6-11) from the free throw line.
 
F. Ashby posted a team high 20 points for Rutgers-Newark while H. Ashby collected 13 points of her own. Hairs-Jackson and Ania Harrell each posted seven points in the game and Skelly led the team with seven rebounds. The Scarlet Raiders shot 32% (20-61) from the field, 40% (4-10) from the three-point line and 47% (8-17) from the free throw line.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, December 9th when they travel to Kean University for a NJAC conference game at 3pm.
