CRAWFORD LEADS RAMAPO IN LOSS TO MSU

Mahwah, NJ:  The Montclair State University women's basketball team remained undefeated in the NJAC with a 69-52 road win over Ramapo College tonight at the Bradley Center. The Red Hawks improve to 6-1 overall, 2-0 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners drop to 2-4 overall, 0-2 in the NJAC.
 
The Roadrunners opened up a 4-0 lead in the game with back-to-back shots from Jenna Harsh and Jina Crawford. A three-pointer from Alex MnKinnon cut the Roadrunner lead to one, 4-3 before Jessica Repasy scored a pair of free throws with 6:12 on the clock in the first quarter to take a 6-3 lead. MSU went on a 10-2 run to close out the first quarter taking a 15-8 lead. In the second quarter the Red Hawks extended their lead to 13 with a made jumper from McKinnon 25-12 with 6:23 on the clock. Ramapo scored the next to baskets to cut the MSU lead to nine on back-to-back shots from Tia Solomon and Crawford with just under five minutes to play 25-16. MSU outscored the Roadrunners 9-4 down the stretch of the second quarter. Bridgette Buckalew sank a three-pointer with 1:09 left to play before Katie Tobie scored one for the Red Hawks to extend the lead 34-22. Repasy put in the final basket of the half for either team scoring with 11 seconds remaining while MSU took a 34-24 lead into the locker room.
 
Taylor Harmon put MSU up 13 with 8:21 on the lock in the third quarter before Ramapo went on a 6-0 run. Crawford hit a jumper before Samantha Rinaldi put in a basket with just under seven minutes to play before she sank a pair of free throws, cutting the MSU lead to 39-32 with 6:46 remaining in the half. Taylor Harmon scored on an and-one play that started a 17-3 run to end the third quarter and take a 23-point lead 61-38. The Roadrunners would hold MSU to just eight points in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Red Hawks 14-8. MSU held a 23-point lead with five minutes to play of a jumper from Nicolette Stevens before Ramapo scored the next seven points. Buckalew hit a three-pointer before Harsh nailed a jumper off a pass from Rinaldi and Amber Sagan sank two free throws with 3:33 left to play cutting the MSU lead to 67-51. The final points for both teams were made on the charity stripe as MSU closed out the game with a 69-52 win.
 
The Red Hawks were led by Katie Sire with 21 points, seven rebounds and three steals while McKinnon added 13 points and eight rebounds. Taylor Harmon posted 12 points and Taylor Brown added 11 points. Kate Tobe dished out a team high 11 assists in the game to go along with five points. The Red Hawks scored 42% (24-56) from the field, 28% (8-28) from the three-point line and 72% (13-18) from the free throw line. The MSU defense forced 20 Roadrunner turnovers that led to 17 Red Hawk points.
 
The Roadrunners were led by Crawford who tallied 13 points and three steals while Buckalew posted eight points, including two three-pointers and grabbed five rebounds and four assists. Harsh, Amber Sagan, Repasy and Rinaldi all contributed with six points. The team shot 42% (17-40) from the floor, 14% (2-14) from the three-point line and 76% (16-21) from free throw line.
 
Ramapo returns to action when they travel to NJAC rival Stockton University on Saturday for a game at 1pm.
