PLATTSBUGH, N.Y. -- Olivia Shaw and Sam MacDonald registered 20 points apiece to send the University of New England women's basketball team towards a 67-42 victory against Plymouth State University in the championship game of Plattsburgh State University's Cardinal Classic on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 18) at Memorial Hall.
The Nor'easters (3-0) dominated the event on the defensive end, restricting their opponents to less than 28 percent shooting, out-rebounded them by a margin of 112-58, and forcing an average of 26.0 turnovers.
Shaw made her performance a double-double with 12 rebounds, and added three blocks, on the way to being named the Most Valuable Player. MacDonald collected eight more caroms to earn a spot on the all-tournament team. Jocelyn Chaput, who backed up her Friday double-double with nine points on day two, also made the all-tournament squad.
Elyssa Nicholas contributed 13 points for UNE, which took a 21-10 lead after one period and increased it to 41-22 by halftime.
Jess Conant paced the Panthers (2-1) with 13 points.
The Nor'easters will now prepare to visit Bowdoin College on Tuesday (5:30 p.m.).
