Anchorwomen Defeat Dean, 55-46

Providence, R.I.-Sophomore guard Jordyn Gauvin (Fall River, MA) scored 14 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out five assists to lead the Rhode Island College women's basketball team to a 55-46 victory over Dean in a non-conference contest played at The Murray Center on Monday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• RIC senior guard Amber DeCristofaro (Smithfield, RI) tallied 14 points to go along with six boards.

• Sophomore forward Ornella Livramento (Pawtucket, RI) scored six points, pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds, handed out three assists and made two steals for the Anchorwomen.

• Freshman guard Nicole Romero (Winchendon, MA) paced Dean with 11 points and two assists.

• Sophomore forward Shannon Rosen steel (Sunrise, FL) narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and nine boards in the loss for the Bulldogs.

• RIC led for the majority of the first quarter before taking a 14-9 lead at the first break. 

• The Anchorwomen pushed their advantage to six points several times during the second quarter, which included a 27-21 lead on a three-pointer from freshman guard Brooke Young (West Warwick, RI) with 2:42 left in the first half. RIC took a three-point, 27-24, lead heading into the locker room at halftime.

• RIC led 33-24 om a jumper from Livramento with 7:10 remaining in the third quarter. Dean chipped away at the lead and knotted the game, 39-39, after three quarters of action.

• RIC controlled the action in the fourth quarter, going on an 8-1 run that was capped by a jumper from junior guard Margaret McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI), to take a 47-40 lead before cruising to the 55-46 win.

BY THE NUMBERS

• RIC shot 41.5% percent (22-of-53) from the field, 36.4 percent (4-of-11) from the three-point line and 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from the free throw line.

• Dean shot 30.9 percent (17-of-55) from the field, 33.3 percent (1-of-3) from the three-point line and 64.7 percent (11-of-17) from the free throw line. 

•  RIC outrebounded Den by a 47-29 margin and forced the Bulldogs into 15 turnovers in the contest.
