The nationally ranked Hope College women's basketball team became the seventh NCAA Division III women's basketball team to reach 800 all-time wins on Saturday with an 84-49 victory at Adrian College.
In the Flying Dutch's 1,132nd game since its 1972-73 varsity debut, Hope joined fellow Division III teams Husson, Elizabethtown, St. John Fisher, Southern Maine, Scranton, and Washington-St. Louis in achieving the milestone.
"So much respect for those that came before this team," head coach Brian Morehouse said. "Coaches, players, administration, medical staff who made this all possible. I'm blessed to be a part of this."
Freshman guard Kenedy Schoonveld of Zeeland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) topped the Flying Dutch in scoring against Adrian with 14 points.
Junior forward Francesca Buchanan of Grant, Michigan (Sparta HS) recorded her second consecutive double-double of the week with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Freshmen guards Jess Moorman of Northville, Michigan (Northville) and Lauren Newman of Flushing, Michigan (Flushing) chipped into a balanced effort with nine points apiece.
Hope improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.
The Flying Dutch never trailed and raced out to a 25-7 first-quarter lead at Adrian (2-3, 1-1 MIAA).
