HARRISONBURG, VA --- EMU's basketball women took over early and rolled to a 96-25 win over Trinity (D.C.) University Saturday afternoon at home. The Royals shot 45% from the floor, including 12-of-26 from outside, and got points from 18 of the 19 women who played.
Eastern Mennonite improves to 4-3 with the non-conference win. At 1-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, the women hit the road on Wednesday for a huge ODAC clash at Lynchburg College (6-1/1-0 ODAC). Start time is 7:00pm.
Trinity scored first against the Royals and held their largest lead at 5-2 when Amaya Webb banked in a three pointer just 1:34 into play.
It was all EMU from there.
The Royals scored the next 14 points, bumping the lead to 16-5 on a layup from Cheyenne Suamataia-Teo (Stafford, Va./Mountain View). At the end of the first, the 11-point lead stuck, 21-10.
That proved to be the Tigers' highest-scoring period, as EMU's defense limited them to six points in the second, seven in the third, and a miniscule two over the final 10 minutes. For the game, the Royals held their guests to just 13.2% shooting.
Along with the large shooting difference, Eastern Mennonite dominated the boards, 69-39, with 24 offensive rebounds and had a +7 turnover margin.
Lindsey Krisak (Alexandria, Va./Thomas A. Edison) stroked in 5-of-8 three pointers for a game high 15 points. She also tied her career high with five assists. Taylor Baltimore (Bristow, Va./Battlefield) added four handouts. Jess Washington (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) was unstoppable with 10 points, eight rebound, three assists and two steals.
Chrissy Delawder (Broadway, Va./Broadway) had eight points and seven rebounds, while Hope Simmons (Dayton, Va./Turner Ashby) also scored eight. Freshmen Destiny Fuller (Petersburg, Va./Petersburg) and Sabrina Jones (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) dominated the inside in the fourth quarter, with Fuller racking up seven rebounds and Jones going off for seven points and five boards in just five minutes.
Webb led Trinity (2-4) with seven points and six rebounds.
