Shannon Barrett (32 points) and Daniela Arias (21 points) each scored career-highs to lead Baruch to a 66-44 CUNYAC home win over the Cardinals of York College on Friday night in the ARC Arena.
The Bearcats earned their first win of the young season by jumping out to a 20-8 lead after the first quarter.
The visiting Cardinals rallied to get as close as six points (22-16) with 4:08 left in the second quarter, but the Bearcats took control again to lead 28-19 at halftime.
They kept their momentum going at the start of the third quarter with consecutive threes by Barrett to further jump ahead 34-19. That was enough as the Bearcats never allowed the lead to get under 12 points during the rest of the game.
In addition to her career-high, Barrett also totaled four blocks and three assists. Arias contributed six steals and four assists in another busy night of filling the stats sheet.
Melinda Spahiu finished with eight points and 11 rebounds. Maria Myrianthopoulos grabbed eight rebounds for the conference-opening win.
Karen Bellamy led the Cardinals with a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds
