Eleven different players scored as The University of Scranton women's basketball team remained unbeaten with a 76-44 victory over Neumann on Monday night in the Long Center.
Freshman forward Chloe Burns (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) came off the bench to score a team-high 13 points, two rebounds and two steals for Scranton (4-0). Senior guard Katie Broderick (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) had 12 points, three assists, two rebounds and a steal, and junior guard Bridgette Mann (Canadensis, Pa./Wallenpaupack) added 10 points, five assists and three rebounds.
The Lady Royals (No. 19 D3hoops.com/No. 10 WBCA) used a 20-4 run from late in the first quarter to just past midway through the second quarter to turn an 11-10 lead into a 31-14 advantage. From there, they didn't look back, holding Neumann (2-3) to just 13 points total in the second and third quarters.
Sophomore forward Makenzie Mason (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) had another strong all-around game, finishing with eight points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. Sophomore center Sofia Recupero (Whitestone, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) had eight points and three rebounds, and sophomore guard Julia Gantz (Havertown, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) had eight points, two rebounds and two steals. Senior center Katie Feehery (Media, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) also had a solid night with five points, nine rebounds, two steals and two assists.
Scranton shot 42.1 percent (24-for-57) from the field, including 5-for-14 (35.7 percent) from 3-point range. The Lady Royals hit 23 of 32 free throws (71.9 percent) and held a dominant 39-24 edge on the glass. Scranton also forced 22 turnovers while committing just 11, leading to a whopping 30-5 edge in points off turnovers. The Lady Royals' bench also tripled the Knights' reserves, outscoring them 36-12.
Neumann shot 37.8 percent (17-for-45) from the field, including 3-for-15 (.200) from 3-point range. The Knights hit 7 of 9 (.778) from the free throw line.
The Lady Royals are back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 29, when they travel to Radnor, Pa. to take on Cabrini in a non-conference game at 6 p.m.
