Offensive Onslaught Sends Brockport Past Alfred

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team started their season on a high note Saturday evening with an 83-64 victory over Alfred University. The 83 points are the most the team has scored since February of the 2015-16 season when they put up 88 against SUNY Cortland.

Senior Lindsay Johnson was on fire to start her final season in the Green and Gold, registering a double-double, leading the squad with 19 points and 12 boards. Even more impressive was the efficiency in which she did it, as the Waterloo, N.Y. native did not miss a shot, going nine-for-nine from the floor.

The first quarter was played extremely evenly throughout, as the two teams traded baskets for almost the entirety of the frame. The Saxons used an 8-1 run midway through the quarter to take a 15-10 lead, but the Green and Gold were able to sink the final five points before time expired to knot the score at 15-15.

Johnson gave them a lead early in the second quarter by scoring the first five points on an and-one chance followed by another layup, and Brockport would not surrender that lead for the rest of the game. Some solid shooting and stingy defense put them up 39-29 going into the break.

The Golden Eagle shooters caught fire in the third quarter, led by Bailey Pratt who scored 14 of her 17 total points in that quarter alone. She knocked in four of Brockport's five three-pointers in the third, with the other one coming from Julianna Taylor.

Leading by 20 going into the fourth, Brockport was able to put the game into cruise control, sustaining their large lead throughout. Taylor knocked in another pair of three-pointers, finishing her first collegiate game with 17 points and five boards.

Pratt matched her point total with seventeen of her own, while also dishing out three assists and adding a steal. Schyler Laux was not far behind, dropping 16 points on five-of-eight shooting, including three-of-four from downtown.

Overall, the Golden Eagles shot it at a 47.7% clip including 35.5% from long range. They outrebounded the Saxons 41-39, and were aided by solid play from the bench, who scored nineteen points to the Saxons 14.

Brockport will wrap up their Tip-Off Classic tomorrow afternoon when they square off with Hartwick College beginning at 4 p.m.
