KING'S WOMEN FALL TO 13TH RANKED SCRANTON IN CROSS COUNTY CHALLENGER OPENER

WILKES-BARRE -- The nationally-ranked University of Scranton women's basketball team took a one-point-half-time lead over King's College in Friday's Cross County Challenger opener and outscored the Lady Monarchs 35-24 in the second half as the Lady Royals posted a 64-52 victory at the Wilkes University Marts Center. 

Scranton, which entered the game ranked 13th by the WBCA and 19th by D3Hoops.com, fell behind to the Lady Monarchs 19-12 after one quarter and 24-13 with 8:39 left in the half.  But Scranton outscored King's 16-4 the rest of the way to take a 29-28 lead into the halftime break.

King's battled hard and remained within striking distance in the third quarter as the Lady Royals extended the lead to 45-40 heading into the final quarter but the Lady Monarchs drew no closer than five points the rest of the way.

King's was paced by sophomore guard Mackenzie Yori who topped the squad with 18 points, including four three-pointers. Yori transferred to King's over the summer after starting for Scranton last year. Olivia Hoffman followed with 10 points, six rebounds, and three assists while Lindsey Dippre added seven points off the bench. Rebecca Prociak contributed four points, eight rebounds, and three assists while Alexis Steeber chipped in with six points and two boards.

Scranton was led by Sofia Recupero who came off the bench to lead all scorers with 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting, Bridgette Mann added 10 points.

King's will play Marywood on the final day of the round-robin tournament Saturday at 2:00 PM at Wilkes.
