Dolphins Fall In Season Opener To Rowan

ASTON, PA - The CMSV Women's Basketball team opened up the 2016-17 season on Friday night, taking on Rowan University in the game #2 of the Newmann Tip-Off Tournament. Despite three players scoring in double-figures, the Dolphins lost 92-77 to the Profs. 

Seniors Christina Barone & Brittany Carroll led the Mount scoring 18 points apiece, while combining for seven of the Dolphins 12 3-pointers. Ryan Doherty scored 15 points in her first game for the Dolphins. 

The Mount opened up the first quarter controlling the game, leading for the majority of the 10 minute period. Carroll put the Dolphins ahead with 6:42 left in the quarter and two Kelly Nola free throws gave the Mount their biggest lead of six points with 4:08 to go.

The Profs closed out the quarter on a 15-4 run to take a 21-12 lead and they never looked back. 

The first half was dominated by the Profs, as they out shot CMSV 54% to 26%, with the Dolphins only making nine field goals over the first 20 minutes of play. Rowan was on fire from distance, shooting 53% from beyond the arc. 

In the second half, the Dolphins were able to find some offensive rhythm shooting 48% from the field and 53% from distance. 

CMSV will take on Wesley College in the consolation game on Saturday afternoon at 1pm.
