DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University's Senior Night and chances at a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom tournament berth were spoiled as visiting foe Eastern University topped the Aggies, 48-33.

 

DelVal fell to 9-15 overall and 5-8 in league action with one game to play. The Eagles, with the win, clinched a berth into the conference tournament with a 7-6 league record (16-8 overall).

 

In the first quarter, the Aggies led by three points, 8-5, after Danielle Skedzielewski drove the paint and connected on a layup. Eastern responded with a trey from Kayla Homes and a jumper by Amanda Riff to take a two-point lead. From there, DelVal went on a 5-0 run to close the quarter and take a 13-10 lead into the second. Monika Smallwood converted a fast-break layup and senior Sam Foy followed with a jumper during that spurt.

 

The Aggies stretched their lead to four points in the second quarter when a Sarah Wills 3-pointer made it 16-12 with 7:12 remaining in the half. The Eagles went on a 5-0 run from there to go up by one. Eastern eventually held a 19-17 advantage before DelVal countered with a 5-0 run of its own to close the quarter and take a 22-19 lead into the locker room.

 

The Eagles started the second half with a 7-2 run and never looked back as they outscored the Aggies, 29-11, in the final 20 minutes to distance itself from the home team. As a team, the Aggies shot just 18.3 percent from the field for the game while the Eagles weren't much better at 25 percent. The Eagles outrebounded DelVal, 65-41, en route to the 48-33 victory.

 

Foy was honored by her team before the game as the lone senior on the squad. She scored six points and grabbed eight rebounds in her final home contest. She also notched two blocks to up her career total to 112 – fourth most in program history. Skedzielewski led DelVal with a double-double of 11 rebounds and 10 points to go with four assists.

 

Eastern was led by 19 rebounds apiece from Emily Lavin and Regie Robinson. Lavin also added 10 points and four blocks while Taylor Price led all scorers in the game with 15 points.

 

The Aggies will close out their season when the head to DeSales University for a MAC Freedom contest at 1 p.m.
