Wheaton, Ill. - Wheaton's seniors celebrated their own Senior Night by leading the Thunder womne's basketball team to a 90-58 victory over North Park on Saturday night at King Arena. Wheaton's seniors combined for 50 of Wheaton's 90 points as the Thunder improved to 18-4 overall and 11-2 in the CCIW. North Park falls to 11-12 overall and 4-10 in conference play.
Wheaton shot 51.6% (33-64) from the field and connected on 81.8% (9-11) of its three-point attempts. The Thunder made all 15 of its free throw attempts. North Park shot 35.7% (20-56) from the field and 31.3% (5-16) from teh three-point line. The Vikings were 81.3% (13-16) at the free throw line. Wheaton dominated the Vikings on the boards, grabbing 45 rebounds to just 24 for North Park.
Similar to their previous matchup, Wheaton took control of the game in the early minutes, running off 12 straight points to take a 12-2 lead. North Park worked themselves back to within six points but Wheaton would close the first quarter on a 12-0 run capped by a rebound and put back from Ellie Zeller to lead 28-9 at the end of the first quarter.
Wheaton opened the second quarter on a 13-2 run to take a 41-13 lead with 3:03 left in the quarter en route to a 46-20 halftime advantage.
Wheaton pushed the lead to as many as 30 points on three occasions in the third quarter before the Vikings closed the quarter on a run to cut the score to 64-40. Wheaton would control the action in the fourth quarter, leading by as many as 34 points on its way to a 90-58 victory.
Chantal Meacham led all scorers with 20 points including six three-pointers. Katie McDaniels finished with 15 points and Ellie Zeller scored 11 points. Devin Kyler scored eight points to go with a game-high 12 rebounds.
Wheaton will next be in action on Wednesday night, when the Thunder travel to Decatur to face Millikin University at 7 pm.
