DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University went on a 22-4 fourth quarter run, but could not complete the comeback as visiting, defending Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom champion FDU-Florham escaped with a 91-75 victory.

 

The Aggies dropped to 9-13 overall and 5-6 in MAC Freedom games while the Devils improved to 20-3 overall and 11-3 in league play. DelVal finds themselves one game behind Eastern University for the fourth and final playoff spot. The two teams will meet on Tuesday, February 14 in Doylestown at 6 p.m.

 

The Aggies started this contest with three straight baskets including a 3-pointer from Danielle Skedzielewski for the early 7-0 lead. However, FDU-Florham responded with a 20-1 run over the next six minutes on its way to a 27-12 lead after one quarter. Kendrea Williams had 16 points for the Devils in the opening stanza.

 

DelVal scored the first six points of the second quarter behind an and-1 play from Ashley Smink and a trey from Sarah Wills to cut its deficit to nine, 27-18. FDU-Florham scored 12 of the next 13 points in the game, with Williams connected from beyond the arc twice, to extend the score to 39-19 with 5:18 left in the half. Williams would go on to score 25 points in the first half as she led her team to a 50-34 advantage at the break.

 

The Aggies got to within 17 points of the Devils early in the third quarter, but still trailed 73-49 heading into the final stanza.

 

In the fourth quarter DelVal trailed 79-53 with 8:19 remaining in regulation before a run that saw five different players score. Morgan Mitchell led the way with six points while Skedzielewski and Smink each had five. Wills hit one trey during the spurt and Sam Foy connected on a jumper and the Aggies pulled to within eight, 83-75 with 3:05 to play. Foy was then called for her fifth and final foul 20 seconds later and FDU-Florham scored the final eight points to escape with the 91-75 victory.
