Gulls hold off Bison, 54-48

DUDLEY, Mass. – Senior Taylor Daniels (Dudley, Mass.) scored 20 points and snared nine rebounds for the Nichols College women's basketball team, which suffered a 54-48 defeat at the hands of Endicott College in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Wednesday night at the Nichols Athletic Center.
 
Daniels also picked up four steals and a pair of assists while classmate Brittany Donovan (Newport, R.I.) notched 16 points and nine rebounds for the Bison, who shot 29 percent (17-of-58 FG). Junior Hannah Shaw (Bar Harbor, Maine) filled the stat sheet with 19 points, 20 rebounds, and three steals for the Gulls while classmate Gabriella Coppola (Watertown, Mass.) scored 11 points and grabbed seven boards. Endicott shot 33 percent and held a 50-34 edge on the glass.
 
Nichols held an 8-5 after one behind two points from four different student-athletes. Endicott rallied back to outscore the Bison 18-9 in the second to take a 23-17 halftime lead. Shaw came off the bench to score 10 points in the frame while Daniels notched five for the home team. Endicott sank 28 percent of its first-half shots while the Bison made 7-of-32 from the field (22 percent). Both teams turned the ball over 13 times.
 
The Gulls led by as many as 12 points in the third (30-18) before the Bison climbed to within four following a layup from Daniels at the 1:00 mark, her ninth and 10th points of the quarter. In the fourth, a layup form Shaw with 6:22 to go pushed the EC lead back to nine (47-38) before a jumper by freshman Kaleigh Putnam (Wallingford, Conn.) made a jumper to extend the lead to 13 points with 2:01 remaining.
 
Nichols scored 17 points off 22 Endicott turnovers.
