Women's Basketball Struggles on the Road

SELINSGROVE, PA- The Goucher College women's basketball team lost 74-52 on the road to Susquehanna University on Saturday afternoon despite taking advantage of fast break opportunities.

 

The Gophers outpaced the River Hawks in fast break scoring, 10-0, but were unable to earn their first Landmark Conference win of the season. Junior Briana Bull led Goucher with 18 points and 12 rebounds- her 13th double-double of the season. Senior Jaida Scarborough tallied 13 points and five assists in the contest.

 

Susquehanna was led by Courtney Adams, scoring 29 points and accumulating four rebounds. Tess Nichols chipped in with 14 points and seven rebounds for the River Hawks.

 

How It Happened: 

  • The game remained tight for the opening eight minutes of the game before the River Hawks expanded their lead with a 14-2 run to close the first period. 
  • Susquehanna maintained their lead over the Gophers heading into the intermission, closing the half ahead, 41-25.
  • Goucher shot 33.3% (12-of-36) in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit as the River Hawks pulled away for their fifth Landmark win of the season, 74-52.
  • Susquehanna shot 47.8% (33-of-69) from the field, compared to the Gophers' 33.8% (22-of-65) shooting.

Next Up:

The Gophers remain on the road Wednesday when they travel to Bethlehem, PA to take on the Moravian College Greyhounds. Goucher fell 72-66 at home when the teams met on January 25th.
