NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team suffered a Skyline Conference loss to Mount Saint Mary College, 64-34, at John Jay College on Thursday evening. The Knights remain in first place in the Skyline Conference standings.

The Maccabees (2-15, 0-12 Skyline) gave the Knights (15-4, 11-2 Skyline) all they could handle, but it was not enough.

Yeshiva got off to a strong start as senior forward Tess Blaustein launched a three-pointer to put Yeshiva up 3-0, just 29 seconds into the game. Later in the quarter, junior forward Michal Alge forced a steal and fed the ball to freshman guard Laura Betesh, who laid it up and in, to extend the Maccabees' lead to 5-0, with 6:40 remaining. The Knights responded by scoring 11 unanswered points to take the lead with 4:20 left in the stanza.

Yeshiva would not go down without a fight, as Alge and senior forward Simee Rosner combined for back-to-back layups to pull the home team to within two, at 11-9, with 2:44 remaining. Mount Saint Mary added two free throws to increase its lead to 13-9, and that would be the score at the end of one.

The Maccabees scored the first four points of the second stanza, capped off by a layup from Rosner, to tie the game at 13. After the Knights scored four unanswered points, Alge converted on two free throw attempts to narrow Yeshiva's deficit to two, at 17-15. From that point on, Mount Saint Mary took control of the contest, by scoring 16 unanswered points to close out the half. The Knights had a commanding 33-15 advantage at the intermission.

Mount Saint Mary outscored Yeshiva, 31-19, in the second half to clinch the Skyline Conference victory.

For the evening, Blaustein scored a team-high 10 points with three rebounds, two assists, one block, and one steal. Rosner produced eight points with 12 rebounds, while Alge grabbed a game-high 16 boards to go along with four points and three steals. Senior forward Gavriela Colton brought down a career-high eight rebounds and forced one steal. Sophomore guard Avigayil Wiener scored six points on two successful shots from beyond the arc. Betesh and junior guard Andrea Weiss each scored three points, with the former grabbing three boards and dishing out just as many assists.

Yeshiva will travel to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, on Sunday, for a battle with the Mariners in Skyline play. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
