BLUFFTON, OHIO – Freshman guard Nicole Weaver (Fort Wayne, Ind.) managed a team-leading eight points off the bench for Manchester University, headlining the Spartans' visit to Bluffton University's Sommer Center Wednesday, Feb. 1.
Weaver continued her seasonal theme as one of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's best charity stripe converters, going four for five to aid in her point total. She also dished out three assists and picked off three steals, both of which were team bests.
Even with those efforts, Coach Josh Dzurick's team struggled shooting-wise in all aspects, hitting at less than 20 percent from the field overall and beyond the arc and winding up just over 50 percent at the free throw line. Due to that, the host Beavers took advantage, scoring 12 of the first 14 points and not looking back in route to a 55-34 victory.
Following Weaver for the Black and Gold (7-13 overall, 6-7 HCAC) was the inside duo of sophomore center Maddy Minehart (Auburn, Ind.) and senior guard Jenifer Lee (Rockville, Ind.). They each scored six points, while Minehart grabbed five rebounds and blocked two BU shots. Junior forward/center Torrie Christlieb (Culver, Ind.) contributed four points, four blocked shots and nine rebounds.
Manchester University returns home to face Hanover College Saturday, Feb. 4. Tip-off time is 1 p.m. at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.
