RIVER FOREST, Illinois -- Alverno College led for the first 34 minutes of the game but lost to host Dominican University, 45-41, Wednesday night inside Igini Sports Forum.
The Inferno had a 22-18 lead at halftime and doubled the spread to eight, 35-27, at the end of the third quarter, but the Stars outscored the visitors 18-6 in the fourth.
Dominican (7-13, 5-10 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) took its first lead of the contest, 37-35, with 5:33 left to play, and the lead changed hands four more times before the final horn sounded.
Gabby Hood hit a pair of free throws with 1:31 remaining for a 41-40 Inferno lead, but Alverno was unable to score again, and Dominican tallied the final five points of the game for the first win in nine games in the series.
Mollie Mikyska scored a team-high nine points for the Inferno while Katelyn Bartlett and Donna Zehner secured eight rebounds apiece to lead the 45-33 advantage on the glass.
Hood recorded a game-best four assists and became the fifth player in program history to eclipse the 200-assist mark, now with 202 in her career.
The Stars were led by Shamia Clark's 13 points and 10 rebounds, both game highs.
After the two-game road stint, Alverno (9-11, 9-6 NACC) returns home Saturday to host Concordia University Wisconsin. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. at Reiman Gymnasium.
