Fighting Scots defeat Bison, 60-49

DUDLEY, Mass. – Senior Taylor Daniels (Dudley, Mass.) posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds in Nichols College's 60-49 loss to Gordon College in Commonwealth Coast Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Nichols Athletic Center.
 
Daniels also recorded four steals in 35 minutes of action for the Bison, who were outrebounded 54-41 and shot 28 percent. Sophomore Amy Assad (Millis, Mass.) came off the bench to score 15 points and grab eight rebounds while junior Allison Cerrato (Rockland, Mass.) posted eight points, six rebounds, three dimes and two steals.
 
Freshman Meghan Foley (Malden, Mass.) paced the Fighting Scots with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Classmate Sarah Gibbs (Elizabethtown, Pa.) pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds and also scored five points. Gordon knocked down 35 percent of its shots and won despite turning the ball over 25 times.
 
Nichols led 15-12 after one as Assad led all scorers with seven points. Gordon rallied back to take a 25-24 halftime lead as junior Jenna Olson (Rutland, Vt.) scored six in the opening 20 minutes for the visitors, who shot 35 percent in the half. Assad led Nichols with 10 points while Daniels had six. Nichols forced 15 turnovers which led to 11 points.
 
The Fighting Scots extended their lead to six at 43-37 after three. Olson and Foley each dropped in five points in the frame while Daniels and freshman Callie Andrews (Southbridge, Mass.) each scored four for NC. Gordon then outscored Nichols 17-12 in the fourth quarter and went up by 12 with less than three minutes to go.
 
Olson finished the contest with 13 points and eight rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Today's contest marked 44th all-time meeting between Gordon College and Nichols College. The Fighting Scots have won three-straight following a 15-game losing skid and the series is now tied at 22 wins apiece.
