Hartford, Conn. – Senior co-captain forward Meredith Doswell (Richmond, Va.) totaled 19 points, four rebounds, three assists, a block, and four steals to lead the visiting Amherst College Purple and White to a 85-44 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's basketball action this afternoon at Oosting Gymnasium.  Trinity drops to 11-7 overall and 2-4 in the NESCAC with its fourth loss in a row, while the No. 2-ranked Purple and White improves to 20-0 overall and 7-0 in the league,

Amherst went ahead, 9-2, early but Trinity closed the gap to 14-11 with 1:20 left in the first quarter on a put-back and a free throw by sophomore forward Erin Cunningham (Wilton, Conn.).  Doswell and sophomore Emma McCarthy (Shelton, Conn.) ended the opening period with back-to-back buckets for Amherst, however, and the visitors led, 18-11, at the break.  The Purple and White broke it open in the second quarter, scoring 15 of the last 18 points before intermission to lead 36-18.  Doswell had 214 points at halftime, as Amherst shot 50 percent from the field, held Trinity to just six field goals in 23 tries (26.1 percent), and outrebounded Trinity, 21-134.  Bantam first-year Peace Kabari (Manchester, N.H.) had six points at the break.

Amherst scored 28 points in the third quarter to go ahead, 66-33, and coasted from there.  Trinity sophomore center Courtney Erickson (Everett, Mass.) had a solid second half with 12 of her team-high 16 points, while Kabari finished with 11 points and six rebounds, and Cunningham paced Trinity on the glass with seven boards and added six points.  Amherst senior co-captain guard Ali Doswell (Richmond, Va.) had 12 points and five assists, while junior forward Jackie Nagle (Colchester, Vt.) added 12 points, five rebounds, and four blocks off the bench, and McCarthy notched 10 points, five rebounds, and two blocks.  The Purple and White defense blocked 11 shots and held Trinity to 26.4 percent shooting from the floor.  Trinity rookie Emily Peters (North Attleboro, Mass.) had three of 12 steals for the home squad.
