NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team earned her 10th double-double of the year, 24 points and 11 rebounds, as the Falcons defeated Lasell College by a score of 75-57 on Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Albertus controlled the opening 10 minutes of play as a three from Jill Johnson (North Haven, Conn.) gave the Falcons a 10-point cushion, 19-9, before closing out the quarter with the 19-12 lead.
About two minutes into the next frame, Lasell found themselves within four, 19-15, following a three from Becca Fenton. However, Albertus Magnus managed to push its lead back up to double-digits and held a 43-26 lead at the half.
Despite outscoring the Falcons in the third, 15-14, Lasell could only play catch-up as the hosts secured the 75-57 home victory.
FIRST HALF STATS
- The Falcons outshot the Lasers 19-12 in the first and 24-14 in the second quarter.
- At the half, Albertus was shooting 52.9 percent from the field and 50 percent from the line.
- Bolden earned 14 of her 24 points in the first half alone.
- The Falcons dominated scoring 20 of their 43 points in the paint compared to the Lasers' six.
SECOND HALF STATS
- Junior Kiki Epps (Norwalk, Conn.) had an impressive second half scoring all 10 of her points in the second.
- Lasell College outscored Albertus 15-14 in the third, but the Falcons came back outscoring the visitors 18-16 in the final quarter.
- Bolden and Ava Harris (New Haven, Conn.) each collected a team-high five rebounds.
FINAL STATS
- Lasell's largest and only lead of the game came at the 7:41 mark while the Falcons largest lead was at 24 in the fourth.
- The Falcons' bench held a 20-4 edge over the Falcons.
- Angelina Piccirillo (16) (Naugatuck, Conn.), Liz Falcigno (13) (Wallingford, Conn.) and Epps (10) rounded out the Falcons' double-digit scorers for the evening.
