MADISON, Wisconsin -- Alverno College scored the first 10 points of the second quarter to take a nine-point lead and stayed in front of winless Edgewood College the rest of the game for the 68-44 win Saturday afternoon.
The visiting Inferno outscored the hosts 22-10 in the period for the 34-23 halftime lead. The Eagles (0-15, 0-10 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) had the lead cut to six midway in the third, but Alverno closed the quarter on a 14-6 run to remain in control.
Mollie Mikyska led the visitors with 17 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line while Donna Zehner tallied her second straight double-double with 14 points and a game-best 12 rebounds.
Karli Selear was 3-of-5 from downtown and scored 14, and Katelyn Bartlett added nine points and nine boards.
The Inferno forced 19 turnovers that led to 23 points and also outrebounded Edgewood, 39-29.
Sidney Peach led the Eagles with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, and Allison Gordon had 14.
Coupled with the 82-51 win on Dec. 31, Alverno earned the season sweep of Edgewood.
Another road contest is next up for the Inferno (6-9, 6-4 NACC) as the squad takes its two-game winning streak to Concordia University Chicago Wednesday evening.
