The No. 21 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team used a decisive third quarter and a career high performance Saturday afternoon to earn a 77-72 victory at UW-Platteville in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest.

The Warhawks (14-1 overall, 4-0 WIAC) outscored the Pioneers 28-16 in the third period to erase a halftime deficit.

Junior guard Brooke Trewyn matched her career high in scoring with 28 points to go along with eight rebounds and five steals. The performance was Trewyn's sixth of the year and second straight with 20 or more points.

Senior guard Reilly Stewart and junior guard Malia Smith added 12 points apiece for UW-Whitewater, which forced 26 turnovers and held a 25-12 advantage in points off turnovers.

Trailing by eight with 2:27 to play in the first half, the Warhawks chipped away at the UW-Platteville lead with 3-pointers by sophomore guard Emily Kraft and Stewart, which brought the team to within 36-34 at halftime.

A jumper by freshman guard Becky Raeder with 7:46 on the clock in the third quarter started a 14-4 run and gave UW-Whitewater the lead for good.

The Warhawks built the lead up to 14 early in the fourth quarter following a jumper by Trewyn.

The Pioneers (5-10, 1-3) whittled their deficit all the way down to three points with 11 seconds to play, but Stewart hit a pair of free throws on the next possession, UW-Whitewater's 20th and 21st made free throws of the contest, to wrap up the win.

The Warhawks start a stretch of playing four of their next five games at home on Wednesday against No. 13 UW-Oshkosh, which is tied with UW-Whitewater for first place in the conference standings. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Kachel Gymnasium.

Fans in attendance at Wednesday's game are also encouraged to wear white to "White Out" Kachel Gymnasium. T-shirts will be distributed free to UW-Whitewater students and be made available to fans for purchase.
