KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Basketball lost to SUNY Poly at home on Saturday by the score of 67-54 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference contest.
Keuka College (4-5, 2-4 NEAC) concludes the weekend at home on Sunday as they host SUNY Cobleskill at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center at 1pm.
Senior Katie Stuart (Tupper Lake, N.Y. / Tupper Lake) tied her career-high with 24 points. Also in double-figures for the Wolves was Lauren Anten (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton). The sophomore added 15 in the loss. Freshman guard Sam Laranjo (Averill Park, N.Y. / Averill Park) facilitated the offense for Keuka with eight assists on the afternoon.
The Wolves came out firing against the Wildcats and jumped out to an early 8-0 lead. SUNY Poly responded with a 12-0 run in two minutes of action to take the lead back. The Wolves had a run of their own. Keuka College outscored SUNY Poly 13-2 over the final 2:31 of the quarter. Katie Stuart made a layup as the buzzer sounded and the Wolves led 21-14 after one.
Keuka College quickly pushed the lead to double-digits as Britta Berguson (Blossburg, Pa. / North Penn-Liberty) knocked down a three and Lauren Anten followed that with a jumper. The Wolves maintained that margin for most of the quarter. A couple late baskets by the Wildcats drew the lead down to seven, 35-28, as the two teams went to the locker rooms for halftime.
SUNY Poly took control of the game in the third quarter. They opened on a 10-0 run, taking the lead. After a Keuka basket, SUNY Poly went on an 8-0 run. Overall, they outscored Keuka 23-4 in the third and led 51-39 going to the final quarter.
Keuka opened the third on an 8-0 to draw the margin back to four points, 51-47. However following a timeout, the Wildcats had a seven point spurt to reestablish an 11-point lead. That would be as close as Keuka College would make it as they fell to SUNY Poly 67-54 on Saturday.
