UMHB women roll past ETBU 93-68

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team earned a dominant 93-68 win over East Texas Baptist University Wednesday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 10-4 on the season and 3-2 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tigers fell to 2-12 overall and 0-7 in league play.

UMHB opened the game on a 7-2 run and led by as many as 10 points in the first quarter with Kendall Rollins and Alicia Blackwell each putting up seven points. The Tigers cut UMHB's lead to just three points with 45 seconds left in the half before Antoinette Iroko hit a three-pointer to give UMHB a 42-36 halftime advantage. The Cru opened the third quarter with a 9-0 run to gain leverage on the Tigers and did not let up leading by as many as 16 points in the quarter. UMHB put the Tigers away with a 26-point fourth quarter performance, earning their 10th win of the season.

Rollins led the Cru with 17 points while Tashyra Banks added 13 and Blackwell and Iroko each had 12. UMHB shot 47.3 percent in the contest with Meghan Turner recording a game-high 10 assists. The Cru out-rebounded the Tigers 43-37, led by Rollins, Banks and Kendra Wynn with six boards each. Wynn also recorded a game-high four steals as UMHB forced the Tigers into 23 turnovers.

Hannah Holt led East Texas Baptist with 12 points followed by Amanda Wilson with 10. Delia Hopkins led the Tigers with nine boards while Holt added six assists and Brittney Jones had two steals. ETBU shot 40 percent in the contest, 47.4 percent from beyond the arc and 50 percent from the free throw line. The Cru hit 47.3 percent of their shots, going 38.5 percent from beyond the arc and 86.7 percent in free throws.

UMHB returns to action on Saturday, January 14th in a 1 p.m. start at Concordia University Texas in Austin.
