Piper Rally Falls Just Short to Cobbers

More news about: Hamline

Alaina Quaranta led a furious second half rally that fell just short and the Hamline women's basketball team had to settle for a 73-65 loss to Concordia Saturday at Hutton Arena. Quaranta, a sophomore guard, scored 19 points and Chloe Graves added 11 as HU chopped a 16-point deficit to just two with 2:18 to play. But the Cobbers forced a pair of turnovers and hit the ensuing free throws to drop Hamline to 5-8 overall, 2-4 in the MIAC.

The visitors led most fot he way, starting with a 21-15 edge after a quarter and a 38-31 bulge at halftime. CC upped the lead to 57-47 after three quarters and seemed in command at 67-51 with eight minutes left.  Quaranta scored half of the points in a 14-0 Piper run that made the score 67-65. That was as close as HU would get to the lead.

In addition to Quanrata and Graves (who was honored before the game for scoring her 1,000th career point and setting the school all-time record for assists), HU received notable efforts from Ivannie Robertson (10 points) and Reilly Geistfeld (game high nine rebounds).Graves also had four assists and a game high four steals.

Greta Walsh led Concordia with 27 points. Cassidy Rahman added 14.

Hamline is off until Wednesday, January 14 when they welcome St. Catherine to Hutton Arena. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
