Grundy Scores Career-High 25 Points As Washington Holds Muhlenberg to 18 Second Half Points

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Visiting Washington College registered its first all-time victory at Muhlenberg, 66-60, on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Hall in Centennial Conference women's basketball action.  The Shorewomen, who trailed 42-29 at halftime, held the Mules to just 18 points in the second half while scoring 37 points of their own.  Senior guard Ali Grundy (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) scored a game-best and career-high 25 points in the win and put Washington ahead for good at 57-54 with a three-pointer with 2:08 remaining as the Shorewomen shot a season-high 56% from three-point range (10-for-18).

How It Happened
- With the scored 2-2 with 8:51 to go in the first quarter following a jumper by Cassidy Quattro, the Mules went on a 12-0 run to take a 14-2 lead with 3:59 to go in the opening stanza on a Christina Manning layup.  The Mules held a 28-15 lead over the Shorewomen after one quarter. 
- Washington and Muhlenberg played to a 14-14 second quarter as the hosts took a 42-29 lead into halftime.  The Mules took their biggest lead of the half of 17 points at 32-15 just 70 seconds into the quarter on a Rachel Plotke jumper.  The Shorewomen would get within 11 on two occasions, the final time being with 45 ticks left in the second on a bucket by Grundy. 
- The Shorewomen opened the third quarter with a 13-2 run to cut the Mules' lead to 44-42 with 3:08 remaining in the third on a Caitlyn Clark three-pointer.  Muhlenberg would take a 46-44 lead into the fourth as Washington outscored the Mules 15-4 in the third. 
- Emily Thiemann completed a traditional three-point play with 6:39 left in the fourth to knot the game at 49-49.  It was the first time the game was tied since it was 2-2. 
- Washington took its first lead of the game, 54-51, with 3:55 left when Clark canned a triple from the right corner on a pass from Grundy.
- With the scored tied at 54-54 following three free throws in four attempts from the Mules, Grundy put the visitors ahead for good on a triple from the top of the arc with 2:08 to go give WC a 57-54 edge.
- After three misses by Muhlenberg, Thiemann converted a layup to give the Shorewomen a 59-54 lead with 54 ticks left in the game.  After another Mules' miss, Thiemann converted 1-of-2 from the foul line to make it 60-54 with 38 seconds left.
- Brandi Vallely made a bunny with 18 seconds left to cut the lead to 60-56, but Washington drained all six free throws in the final 17 seconds to seal the deal. 

For The Shorewomen (6-5, 3-3)
- Grundy (game-high and career-best 25 points, 7-for-10 from three-point range), Quattro (team-best nine rebounds and ties for tops in game with four blocks), Clark (13 points), Bridget McLaughlin (team-best five assists).
- Washington shot 39% from the field (23-for-59), 56% from three-point range (10-for-18) and 71% from the foul line (10-for-14).  The 10 three-pointers are a season-high for the Shorewomen.
- Washington was able to overcome its 16 turnovers in the contest.
- The Shorewomen outscored the Mules off the bench by a 15-10 margin.

For Muhlenberg (7-4, 5-2)
- Vallely (10 points to go along game-highs of 14 points and seven assists; double-double), Manning (13 points and nine boards), Chelsea Gary (11 points), Maggie Zerbe (12 rebounds).
- The Mules held a 51-47 advantage in rebounds in the game, totaled a 13-0 advantage in points off of turnovers, 28-6 edge in points in the paint and outscored the Shorewomen 20-19 in second-chance points.
- Muhlenberg shot 28% from the field (23-for-83), 14% from behind the arc (2-for-14) and 71% from foul line (12-for-17).  The Mules shot 6-for-42 after halftime, a 14% clip.
- The Mules had just six turnovers in the loss.

Notes
- It was Washington's first win over Muhlenberg since a 64-63 win on January 20, 2007 in Chestertown when the Shorewomen knocked off the then #23 Mules.
- Grundy was the first Washington player to notch 25 points in a game since Emily Hubley '15 scored 25 at Johns Hopkins on February 21, 2015. 
- Washington ended Plotke's streak of 30 games with a made three-pointer.
- The Shorewomen have made 10 three-pointers in each of their last two games at Memorial Hall as the last time WC made 10 triples in a game was also at Muhlenberg on February 13, 2016.
- WC is above .500 after 11 games for the first time since 2012-13 when they were 6-5.
