Baruch Knocks Off Staten Island (77-71), Bearcats 4-0 in CUNYAC

The Baruch College Bearcats are 4-0 in the CUNYAC regular season standings after an impressive 77-71 win at the College of Staten Island on Wednesday night in Staten Island, New York.

The Bearcats started slow trailing 19-12 after the first quarter, but the rest of the game was a different story.

They dominated the second quarter with a 22-7 effort and kept the momentum going in the third quarter with a 22-13 advantage for a comfortable 58-39 lead after three quarters.

The Dolphins pressed the action in the final quarter and got as close as 73-69 with 24 seconds left, but the Bearcats held on to the win.


Veronica Ganzi powered the visiting Bearcats and led all scorers with 28 points. She moves into eighth place all-time on the women's basketball scoring charts with 1,164 points and third in threes made with 143.

Kristen Podlovits had a solid game with 26 points, which included 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. She also contributed five assists and four steals. She moves into fourth place on the team's all-time assists chart with 339.

Shannon Barrett scored 10 points to go along with nine rebounds. Daniela Arias stuffed the stats sheet with 11 points, nine rebounds, six steals, and five assists.

Christina Pasaturo led the hosts with a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds.

The Bearcats will continue their CUNYAC schedule on Friday at home with a 5:30 pm home contest against the Lightning of Lehman College.
