BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College shot a season-low 29 percent and saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end with a 70-62 loss to UMass Dartmouth in non-conference women's basketball action on Friday afternoon at Staake Gymnasium.

The Beavers, who lost for the first time since November 20, and the Corsairs are both 9-2 on the season.

Senior Giovanna Pickering (Hull, Mass.) scored 15 points, while classmate Taylor Russell (Braintree, Mass.) and junior Brenna LeGacy (Attleboro, Mass.) both added 11 for the Beavers. Senior Jennifer Narlee (Medfield, Mass.) recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four steals in the loss.

Sophomore Nakira Examond (New Bedford, Mass.) finished with 27 points on 12-of-16 shooting, while junior Alicia Kutil (Franklin, Mass.) added 17 points, 13 rebounds and four assists for the Corsairs. Classmate Leah Douty (Framingham, Mass.) scored 12 points and fellow junior Chelsea Houlihan (Wolcott, Conn.) dished out a game-high six assists.

Examond scored nine early points and UMass Dartmouth took advantage of 11 second-chance points to build a 21-18 edge after one. The Corsairs extended their advantage to 27-20 on a layup by Kutil less than two minutes into the second quarter before Babson responded with a 12-2 run to close the frame. The Beavers forced 11 turnovers in the stanza, held the visitors without a field goal over the final 8:20 and went 6-of-8 at the free throw line to take a 32-29 lead into the locker room.

The Green and White scored on four of its first five possessions to begin the third quarter and took its biggest lead of the game at 38-32 on a layup by Russell. Douty knocked down a three-pointer on the following possession to spark an 8-2 spurt that pulled UMass Dartmouth even at 40-40 on a hoop by Kutil with 4:37 to go in the period.

Babson first-year Emily Bonifacic (Allendale, N.J.) tied the game at 44-44 with a free throw late in the third, but Examond scored seven consecutive points to put the Corsairs up 51-44 just over a minute into the fourth. Narlee drained an elbow jumper to pull the Beavers back within five, but the UMass Dartmouth got 10 points from Examond and scored on nine of its next 12 possessions to build a 70-55 lead, its biggest of the afternoon, with 1:45 remaining.

Despite its woes from the field, the Green and White shot a season-best 71.4 percent (20-of-28) from the free throw line and committed a season-low 11 turnovers.

The Corsairs shot 43.8 percent (28-of-64) from the field, held a 38-24 edge in paint scoring and outrebounded the Beavers, 51-39.

Babson returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to WPI at 7 p.m., while UMass Dartmouth hosts Western Connecticut on January 7 at 1 p.m.

GAME NOTES
•    The Beavers are 2-4 all-time against UMass Dartmouth, although the teams had not played since 2003 prior to Friday.
•    Babson, which entered the game ranked second nationally in rebounding margin (16.1) were outrebounded for the first time this season.
•    Friday's loss snapped the Beavers' 12-game regular-season home winning streak.
•    The loss was just the second in 29 games for Babson when scoring at least 60 points.
