DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University freshman guard Ashley Smink set a single-game school record for free throws made and attempted with a 20-for-24 effort on her way to a career-high 26 points and a 65-56 Aggie victory over visiting Penn State Harrisburg.

The win improved DelVal to 3-6 overall while the Lions fell to 1-8.

Smink broke a 24-year-old school record that was set by Andrea Shumack when she shot 16-for-22 from the charity stripe against Upsula College in 1992. She played but all 14 seconds in the contest and also added four steals, two rebounds and two assists.

Smink was not the only one drawing fouls as the two teams combined for 59 infractions, 70 free throw attempts and a total of five players fouling out. As a team, the Aggies were 33-for-44 from the free throw line compared to just 14-for-26 from the Lions.

Penn State Harrisburg opened the game with 7-0 run with three different players connecting, including Alexis Nolan from beyond the arc. DelVal responded with an 8-0 run of its own to take the lead after a 3-pointer from Sam Foy and five straight points from Smink. Smink was 9-for-10 from the line in the first quarter and the Aggies led, 16-11, after one.

The two teams exchanged three's to start the second quarter before DelVal used a 13-4 run to close out the half with a 38-24 advantage.  Foy and Smink combined for 24 of the team's point total in the stanza.

The Lions started the second half with an 8-3 run to cut the deficit to single digits. However, the Aggies responded in kind by scoring 11 of the final 16 points of the third quarter. Skedzielewski and Smink combined for all 14 DelVal points in the quarter as the team led 52-37 going into the fourth.

In the final stanza, the Aggies hit just one field goal and Penn State Harrisburg made things interesting by pulling to within six on two occasions. However, the duo of Skedzielewski and Smink were 12-for 14 from the line to close out the nine-point victory.

Skedzielewski also had a stellar night as she grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds while adding 18 points, five rebounds and two blocks. Monika Smallwood also hit double-digit rebounds with a career-best 10 while Foy pitched in 10 points and five boards.

For the Lions, Nolan and Kaitlyn Carmo combined for 25 points and 12 rebounds. Tessa Dolce grabbed 11 rebounds, including seven of her team's 32 boards on the offensive end.
